Scientific name: Draschia
L3, Habronema L3
Common name: Summer Sores
Description: Summer sores
are unsightly external lesions that occur when flies deposit worm
larvae in existing skin lacerations or abrasions. Larvae further
sensitize the skin, cause severe itching and inhibit the healing
process. Previously clean wounds or sores that have become enlarged
and covered with a reddish-yellow tissue indicate the development
of summer sores. Persisting summer sores that do not heal can become
chronic and bleed easily. Lesions may heal spontaneously during
winter but frequently recur in spring and summer.
